What is Sound Healing?
Sound healing is a broad term used to describe the use of vibrational sounds to improve your physical, mental, and spiritual health. Sound Healing works on 2 main principles: different emotions vibrate at different levels, and that blocked or trapped emotions are a primary source of dis-ease. Generally speaking, unpleasant feelings have a lower vibrational pattern and pleasant feelings have a higher vibration. When we are unable to release these unpleasant emotions, they can become stuck, blocked, or trapped within the body and cause corresponding energy centers or chakras to clamp closed. Vibrational sounds can help open these blocked energetic centers and allow for an emotional release.
How does this work?
If you remember from your days in science class, water is an excellent conductor of vibration. The human body consists of between 65 and 80% water, thereby making it easy for our bodies to become influenced by sound vibrations. During a Sound Healing session, a trained practitioner uses drums, chimes, bells, bowls, voice, forks, or other instruments to create vibrations matching the body’s energy centers and allowing them to open and release the trapped emotion causing the blockage while promoting an environment for optimal wellbeing and relaxation.
From a traditional medical perspective sound is perceived through the ear. However, as more scientific evidence has emerged, researchers have found that sound is felt physically via vibrations in the body. These vibrations can have a multitude of effects on a person.

Activates the body’s energetic centers allowing for the release of low vibrational energy (negative emotions)

Special attention must be paid for persons who have metal implants/other implanted medical devices, those who suffer from Seizures or Epilepsy, or those who are pregnant. What is Meditation?
Meditation is a centuries old mindfulness tool that helps foster the ability to be present and rest in the here and now. It helps you to be fully engaged with what you are doing. Meditation is a skill, and like any skill, it takes practice to learn to quiet the judgemental mind and become an observer of our thoughts. During our meditation practice, we begin to train the mind to stop being so easily distracted and allow it to clear the chatter and focus on the present moment. Many times this comes with the aid of a mantra (sound or phrase) or by focusing on our breath.
There are many different types of meditation that have been developed over thousands of years. Meditation is not specific to any religion and can be done without fear of religious connotations. Some of the most popular meditations include walking, sitting, eating, guided, and silent meditations. As we begin to develop our meditation practice, it’s important to experiment with different types of meditations to see which one works best for you. You might find variation from one day to the next, and that is okay!
How does meditation work?
Let’s flash back to your days in science class when you studied the brain. The brain has billions of neurons (cells that use electrical and chemical signals to send messages to each other). One neuron connects to thousands of others and forms networks and superhighways throughout your brain. These neurons can have a variety of functions and specialties. Research is showing that people who meditate regularly have certain differences in their brain structure than those who do not meditate. These changes show more density in the brain in certain locations proving that those dense areas have a higher concentration of neurons and that those neurons have stronger connections. Interestingly, the areas of the brain that researchers are finding the densities in persons who meditate are areas of the brain that are responsible for managing our senses, to think and concentrate, and processing emotions. All of that to say, people who meditate regularly are healthier, show fewer signs of age-related loss of function, and have a stronger ability to deal with negative emotions.
How will meditation benefit me?
Modern science is just beginning to understand the benefits of meditation. Modern diagnostic tools such as an electroencephalograph (EEG) and functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) scans are showing that meditation can positively affect your brain and your mental health. Generally speaking, people who meditate are more likely to see the following benefits:
